Malcolm B. Gunn Malcolm B. Gunn was born February 28, 1893 in Burlington County, New Jersey. His family lived at 621 Delaware Avenue in Delanco. Malcolm married Margaret VanSciver of Beverly in February 1918. He joined the US Army as an aviator and was assigned to the 27th Aero Squadron. He departed for France on the USS Olympia on February 26, 1918. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Malcolm died July 16, 1918 when his Nieuport 28 biplane aircraft was shot down during an operation near the town of Vauxbuin, near Chateau Thierry, France behind German lines. He was 25 years old. Neither his body nor his aircraft were recovered. Both the US Government and his widow, Margaret Gunn searched for his remains for over a year without success. He is remembered at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial in Belleau, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France. His story was featured in the 2019 issue of the Stick and Rudder newsletter. John F. Hackney John F. Hackney of 719 Chestnut Street, Delanco enlisted in the US Army during WWII. He was awarded membership in the China-Burma-India Service Chiefs while in the field. Daniel J. Hagarty Daniel J. "Dan" Hagarty was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania in 1954. He lived on Kansas Avenue, Hickory Street and Vine Street in Delanco from 1954 - 2016. He served in the US Navy in Vietnam as an Aviation Specialist, a member of the VAQ-131 Hollygreens unit whose mission was Electronic Warfare and Air-to-air refueling in support of Attack Carrier Task Force operations. He was attached to the USS Constellation (CV 64), USS Saratoga (CV 60), and the USS Ranger (CV 61) deployed in the Western South Pacific and Medeterranian Sea. He was honorabley discharged in 1976 with the rank of E-5 - Petty Officer 2nd Class. He went on to work as a software developer for the US Navy and served as a long time youth soccer and Little League coach. He married Lindsay Fullerton in 1977. Dan is an active member of the VFW and American Legion. Dan and Lindsay currently live in Bradenton, Florida. Albert E. “Bud” Haley, III Albert E. “Bud” Haley, III was born in Trenton in 1942 to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Haley Jr. He lived with his family on Burlington Avenue in Delanco where his father ran Haley’s Market, a general store located at 614 Burlington Avenue. Bud served in the US Navy as an electrician from June 1962 to June 1965, seeing service on the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of AE3. After discharge, he married Barbara Ringer and moved to Riverside in 1967. He worked in the building maintenance department for Hoeganaes Co. in East Riverton for 36 years from 1970 until he retired in 2005. US Navy, AE3 ? Daniel Hamlin, Jr. Daniel Hamlin, Jr. was born on November 8, 1913 to Daniel and Martha L. Hamlin, Sr. of 841 Laurel Street in Delanco; Brother of George and Ralph Hamlin. Dan worked as a painter in civilian life and never married. He was regarded as a baseball star in his youth, a noted pitcher on the Riverside and Delanco AA and Jersey Tigers baseball teams. He joined the US Army in January 1941 at age 26 at the outset of WWII. He trained at Fort Bragg. He was assigned to D Co, 39th Inf, 9th Div and fought in France and the African-Sicilian Campaign. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Daniel was a veteran of the African-Sicilian Campaign. and was late Killed in Action in France on July 18, 1944 . He was awarded the Purple Heart. Elmer A. Hamlin Elmer A. Hamlin was born in Delanco Feb 6, 1920 to Charles & Ethel Hamlin. The family lived in several locations around Delanco. Elmer attended Palmyra High School. The family was active in First Presbyterian Church. Elmer married Margaret Marie McCullough in Delanco on December 26, 1942. He enlisted in the US Army on January 27, 1942 at Fort Dix and was assigned to the 15th Inf, 3rd Div as a PFC. He served in Europe and was involved in the assault on Enzio, Italy. He died of wounds received on February 10, 1944, one day after he landed. He was 24-years old. He was initially buried in Nettuno, Italy, but was reinterred in Beverly National Cemetery in 1948. Frank J. Hamlin Frank Joseph Hamlin was born July 23, 1896 in Delanco, the brother of Lester Hamlin. Frank enlisted December 6,1917 and served as a PFC in the US Army 673 Air Supply Aero Squad in WWI. He was discharged December 18, 1918. He married Gertrude. They were living in Delanco until at least 1942. In later life he lived in Riverton, New Jersey. He died August 25, 1981 and is buried in Mt Carmel Cemetery in Moorestown. George Hamlin George Hamlin was born in 1919 in Delanco to Daniel and Martha L. Hamlin, Jr. of Laurel Street, Delanco; Brother of Daniel and Ralph Hamlin and cousin to Lester Hamlin. George served overseas in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, leaving the service with the rank of PFC. George died He was was listed on the original Delanco WW II Honor Roll. in November of 1992 and is buried in Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson. USAAC, PFC ? WWII 1919 - 1992
Lester J. Hamlin Lester J. Hamlin was born November 11, 1908, brother of Frank J. Hamlin. He married Mary J. Heaton of Delran. He entered WWII and attained the rank of PFC. The family was active at Trinity Episcopal Church, Delran. Lester died in Zurbrugg Hospital, Riverside on September 27, 1993 at age 85 and is buried in Monument Cemetery in Beverly. William John "Hotdog" Hamlin William John "Hotdog" Hamlin was born March 21, 1930 in Delanco to Charles D. and Ethel LeConey Hamlin; Brother of Charles E. and Ethel Joan Hamlin. Bill attended Burlington High School and was an outstanding athlete. After graduation, he moved from New Jersey to Wilkes County, North Carolina to play with the Flashers, a semi-professional baseball team. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1952. He served in Korea and attained the rank of Airman First Class. He was honorably discharged July 31, 1959. Bill married Ruby Nell Shumate and went to work for USPS in North Wilkesboro. When he retired from the Post Office, he worked part time at the North Wilkesboro Bible Book Store and Music Center. The Hamlins were members of Edgewood Baptist Church and Bill was active with VFW Post #1142. Ruby died in 1998 and Bill died March 20, 2006 at North Wilkesboro Regional Medical Center at age 75. He was buried in Scenic Memorial Gardens in Wilkesboro, North Carolina with full military rites. USAF, Air 1st Class Unit? Korea 1930 - 2006
Baird Hammell Baird Hammell of 720 Chestnut Street in Delanco entered the US Army in WWII and served in the 30th Infantry Division, which was awarded Distinguished Unit Citation for the battalion's outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy in the battle of Mortain in the vicinity of St Barthelmy, France, cracking the Siegfried Line north of Auchen, and the sensational Stavelot Defense in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. H. Andrew Hannemann Andrew Hannemann served in the US Navy during WWI and was listed on Delanco's original WWI Honor Roll. When he returned from the war in 1920, Andrew and his brother Herbert opened a rug-making business at 413 Burlington Avenue in Delanco. Andrew was honored for his service on Memorial Day in 1928. Van Buren Hansbury Van Buren was born in Delanco in 1842 and was one of Delanco’s first commercial fishermen. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1861 at age 19 and reenlisted. He saw action at Bull Run and Yorktown, the 7-day Battle of Richmond. He was discharged in 1863 and returned to shad fishing in Delanco. He married Catherine. Van Buren opened an oyster and fish market on Franklin Street behind this residence that faced Burlington Avenue. Van Buren was a charter member of the Delanco Town Hall Association in 1884. He was active with Dobbins Methodist Church. He was honored for his service in the Civil War on Memorial Day in 1928. He died in Delanco March 10, 1929 at age 86 or 87. He was likely the father of Van Buren Hansbury, the commercial shad fisherman of Delanco. Both are buried in Monument Cemetery, Beverly. Union Army I Co, 5th NJ Inf. Civil War 1842 – 1929

Robert Heal Robert Heal was born in Moorestown on October 8, 1924. He graduated from Moorestown High School in 1942, then joined the US Army and served in WWII. We are trying to confirm that Dr. Heal gained his first medical experience during the war. After the war, he attended Drexel Institute, Philadelphia, Illinois Tech., Chicago, Ill and University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Dr. Heal graduated from Univ. of South Dakota School of Medicine with a BS degree in Medicine in 1947 and a MD degree from University of Pennsylvania in 1949. After graduation he interned at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN and had a general practice residency at Chester Hospital, Chester, Pa. He settled in Delanco and set up a clinic in his home in 1954. He practiced family medicine in Delanco for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He was on staff of Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital, Riverside, NJ. He was married to Marjorie Jessup Heal for 60 years. He was member of Burlington County and NJ Medical Societies. He was a member of Westfield Friends Meeting in Cinnaminson, NJ., Delanco Senior Citizens and former member of the Brant Beach Yacht Club on Long Beach Island. Dr. Heal died September 25, 2018 at the age of 93. His interment was private. US Army ? WWII 1924 – 2018
Raymond E. Hearn Raymond Edward Hearn was born December 7, 1926. He joined the US Army in 1945 and was on his way to Japan when WWII ended. He served in the US Army of Occupation, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married Bernice V. Wishart and settled on West Avenue in Delanco in 1952. The family lived in Delanco for the rest of their lives. Raymond died November 19, 2002 and Bernice died in 2008. Both are buried in Beverly National Cemetery. US Army, Sgt Army of Occ.
