Daniel Hamlin, Jr. | Daniel Hamlin, Jr. was born on November 8, 1913 to Daniel and Martha L. Hamlin, Sr. of 841 Laurel Street in Delanco; Brother of George and Ralph Hamlin. Dan worked as a painter in civilian life and never married. He was regarded as a baseball star in his youth, a noted pitcher on the Riverside and Delanco AA and Jersey Tigers baseball teams. He joined the US Army in January 1941 at age 26 at the outset of WWII. He trained at Fort Bragg. He was assigned to D Co, 39th Inf, 9th Div and fought in France and the African-Sicilian Campaign. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Daniel was a veteran of the African-Sicilian Campaign. and was late Killed in Action in France on July 18, 1944 . He was awarded the Purple Heart. He is buried in Monument Cemetery in Beverly. The family was active in First Presbyterian Church. Elmer married Margaret Marie McCullough in Delanco on December 26, 1942. Baird Hammell | Baird Hammell of 720 Chestnut Street in Delanco entered the US Army in WWII and served in the 30th Infantry Division, which was awarded Distinguished Unit Citation for the battalion's outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy in the battle of Mortain in the vicinity of St Barthelmy, France, cracking the Siegfried Line north of Auchen, and the sensational Stavelot Defense in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. Robert Heal | Robert Heal was born in Moorestown on October 8, 1924. He graduated from Moorestown High School in 1942, then joined the US Army and served in WWII. We are trying to confirm that Dr. Heal gained his first medical experience during the war. After the war, he attended Drexel Institute, Philadelphia, Illinois Tech., Chicago, Ill and University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Dr. Heal graduated from Univ. of South Dakota School of Medicine with a BS degree in Medicine in 1947 and a MD degree from University of Pennsylvania in 1949. After graduation he interned at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN and had a general practice residency at Chester Hospital, Chester, Pa. He settled in Delanco and set up a clinic in his home in 1954. He practiced family medicine in Delanco for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He was on staff of Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital, Riverside, NJ. He was married to Marjorie Jessup Heal for 60 years. He was member of Burlington County and NJ Medical Societies. He was a member of Westfield Friends Meeting in Cinnaminson, NJ., Delanco Senior Citizens and former member of the Brant Beach Yacht Club on Long Beach Island. Raymond E. Hearn | Raymond Edward Hearn was born December 7, 1926. He joined the US Army in 1945 and was on his way to Japan when WWII ended. He served in the US Army of Occupation, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He married Bernice V. Wishart and settled on West Avenue in Delanco in 1952. The family lived in Delanco for the rest of their lives. Raymond died November 19, 2002 and Bernice died in 2008. Stanley J. Hettinger | Stanley J. Hettinger was born in Philadelphia on March 25, 1919, the son of Mary E. Hettinger. He was living on Berkshire Street in Philadelphia in 1940 at age 21. He served as a private in the US Army during WWII. Post-service, he married (1st) Dorothy J. Claeys and (2nd) Ruth M. Bilderback. He had four sons and three daughters. The family lived in Delanco for thirty plus years and in the Delanco - Riverside area for over 44 years. He was employed by RCA/Lockheed-Martin, Moorestown for 49 years, retiring as a microcircuit specialist in 1998. Later, the family lived in Oaklyn and Collingswood. He was hardworking and caring. He was also a model train enthusiast. Stanley died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at age 83 at the Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt Holly. Frederick E. Hoey | Fred E. Hoey was born December 4, 1919, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoey of 418 Burlington Avenue in Delanco. The Hoey family was active at First Presbyterian Church in Delanco. Fred enlisted in the US Army on January 27, 1942 in Fort Dix and was assigned to the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division as a PFC. He married Edith Gilette Haines on November 1, 1942. He was Killed in Action in France on October 31, 1944. He was initially buried in France then repatriated and buried in Beverly National Cemetery. Ignatius Francis “Ike” Horan | Ignatius Francis "Ike" Horan, who often went by the nicknames "Ike" or "Nash" (pronounced NAYsh), was born in Beverly in 1920. Brother of Joseph and John Horan. Frank graduated from Riverside High School in 1938 and was a graduate of Strayer Business College. In 1942 Frank and his brother John shipped off to Pearl Harbor where they worked as civilian shipfitters, putting the decimated American fleet back in shape. Frank returned to Delanco in 1942. In 1943 he was drafted to the US Army to serve in the 802nd Army Marine Ship Repair Company in the Philippines. He attained the rank of Staff Sgt. He met and married Shirley Secor Applegate in 1947. They moved to Delanco where they lived for 35 years. Frank worked at Robins Shipyard in Delanco. He served as Delanco Tax Collector from 1966 – 1969. He also served on the School Board, Zoning Board, and Land Use Board. He served as VP of France Products Division of Colt Industries in Ft Lauderdale, FL. Frank and his brothers all suffered from asbestosis as a result of their shipyard work. Frank suffered a debilitating stroke in 1995 which confined him to a wheel chair.
