John G. Maher | John Geary Maher joined the US Army in 1942 and served in Europe during WWII. He was engaged in the Battle of the Bulge. He attained the rank of Colonel by his time of separation in 1964 and was awarded a Bronze Star. He married Irene Paykos and lived at 306 Oakford Avenue in Delanco from 1953. His family was active at Dobbins Memorial Church in Delanco. John served as a teacher and principal at Burlington Township High School. He died in Delanco July 7, 2013 at age 93. Albert J. Malone | Albert J. "Al" Malone, Jr. was born in 1927 in Riverside, the son of Albert J. and Catherine Malone, Sr. He was raised in Riverside and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1950. As a youth he was a lifeguard at Holiday Lake and Ship Bottom on Long Beach Island and saved more than a few people from drowning. He served in the US Air Force and Air Force National Guard in France and Germany. He was a great dancer and met his wife-to-be at a dance at the Hampton Inn. He married Roseann Monachello; two children. Al worked at Rohm & Haas, CE Glass Industries and Princeton Plasma Physics Lab. Al and Roseann lived on Rivers Edge Ave in Delanco and owned the multi-family Faunce building at 212 Burlington Avenue at Washington Street, where their son is the resident manager. James Martin | James Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Martin of Burlington and husband of Janet Martin of Delanco. He starred in football and track at Burlington High School and worked for Public Service Generating Station in Burlington before he entered the US Army to serve during WWII. He was stationed in South Carolina before going overseas to serve in the 100th Division. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant, then received a battlefield promotion to Lieutenant. Joseph N. Matera | Joseph Matera was born in May of 1932, raised in Riverside, and was a 1951 graduate of Riverside High School. He excelled at football, basketball and baseball and was proud to be inducted into the Riverside Sports Hall of Fame. He joined the US Army and served in Korea for several years. On his return from Korea, Joe went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It was there that he first spotted Elsie Jamison. They were married in 1956 and settled on Main Street in Riverton where they raised their four children. Joe went to school at Wharton on the GI Bill, studying business and real estate. In 1971, he retired from the railroad and opened Matera Real Estate in the front room of their home in Riverside. Elsie was Joe's "right arm" and they took great pride in their "mom and pop" operation. In 1979, they bought investment property in Ocean City, which became a second hub of friends and activities. in 1989, Joe and Elsie moved their business up on Main Street and moved to Delanco. They remained parishioners of Sacred Heart Church in Riverton. Elsie died in 2007. Joe died April 8, 2022 in Riverton, just weeks before his 90th birthday. David G. McCord | David G. McCord was born May 21, 1943. He was the brother of Robert and Frank Karmade and Mary Karmade Nikolet. He was a lifelong resident of the Delanco/Riverside/ Delran area. Dave served in the US Navy in California before leaving the service in 1960. After his discharge he worked at Hoeganes for 15 years. He was always an avid boater and loved the water. He served as a Dock Master at Clark's Landing in Delran until his retirement. Dave married Elizabeth Mary "Betty" Endicott in 1972; Parents of Walter McCord and Ginger McCord Craig. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delanco and the Riverside Moose. He was an avid Miami Dolphins Fan and loved Football. Ralph L. McCullough | Ralph Lehre McCullough was born May 19, 1928. The family lived at 308 Buttonwood Ave in Delanco. Ralph served as a PFC in the US Army in Europe during the Korean Conflict. After the war, Ralph was employed by Rohm & Haas in Bristol Pennsylvania from 1953 until he retired in 1990; 37 years. Ralph joined Washington Fire Co No 1 in 1944 and became a Life Member, serving over 60 years. Ralph was considered Washington Fire Co No 1’s Historian. The family was active in 1st Presbyterian Church in Delanco. James C. McDougall | James Clark McDougall was born in Delanco on October 30, 1928, the son of Robert R. and Frances Kelly McDougal, Jr.; sibling of Vernon "Bud" McDougaL He was a lifelong resident of Delanco. He knew the town well, having served as a paperboy for several publications. He joined the US Navy November 19. 1951 during the Korean Conflict and served as a Communications TECnician 3rd grade. He was discharged November 10, 1955. When he returned to Delanco he went to work for the railroad as a signal operator. He later became a self-employed hardware salesman until his retirement. He married (1st) Dolores, then (2nd) Dorothy Myers. They lived on Willow Street then moved to 100 Creek Road. They were active in 1st Presbyterian Church. Jim was a member of the Beverly/ Riverside Masonic Lodge #170 F. and A.M., the Consistory, the Crescent Shrine and the Delanco Senior Citizens Club. Jim died at home on December 30, 2017 at age 89. Robert R. McDougall, Jr. | Robert Roy McDougall, Jr., was born June 14, 1914, son of Robert.R. and Ella S. McDougall, Sr. of Hickory Street, Delanco; Siblings: James C. McDougal and Vernon "Bud" McDougal. Robert married Frances Kelly in 1943 or 1944. He joined the US Army and served in the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany during WWII until 1945 or 1946. After the service he continued to work as a civilian engineer for the Army Corp of Engineers in Philadelphia. The family moved to Pennsauken in 1951. Robert was active in the Gross-Hollinshed VFW Post 1270 in Pennsauken where he served as Commander for many years. As an engineer, he became very interested in model trains as a hobby, and worked on them year round. He died in February of 1982 and is buried in Memorial Cemetery in Beverly. Vernon S. McDougall | Vernon S. "Bud" McDougall was born in 1921, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. and Ella McDougall, Sr. of Hickory Street, Delanco; brother of James and Robert R. Robert R. McDougall, Jr. Vernon married Natalie and was a resident of Delanco. He entered the US Army in July of 1942 to serve in WWII and was sent overseas in October of 1943. Bud was seriously wounded by a German S-mine. He was hospitalized in England then returned to convalesce at Halloren General Hospital on Staten Island, New York. Edward McFadden | Edward William McFadden was born November 5, 1923, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Andrew A. and Edith Miller McFadden of Delanco. He trained at the Radio School at Camp Swift, Texas and served in WWII. Ed died April 23, 2009 and is buried in St. Peter's Cemetery in Riverside. Christopher G. McGann | Christopher G. "Chris" McGann was born on March 28,1987. He joined the US Marine Corps on September 12, 2005 and served in the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Division Fox Company from March 2006 - March 2008 and the 1st Battalion 4th Marine Division Bravo Company from March 2008 - Feb 2010 where he deployed and served aboard the USS Dubuque (LPD-8), an Amphibious Transport Dock in Hawaii and California with 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, and with the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force in Maryland from March 2010 to October 2013.
