Harvey D. Moritz | Harvey D. Moritz was born in 1934 in Moorestown. He was a graduate of Burlington City High School. He joined the Air Force in 1952 and served in Alaska as a radioman during the Korean Conflict. When he left the service in 1957, he married Georgeann "Georgie" Eberly and moved to Delanco. He went to work for the US Postal Service in 1958. He served in Pemberton, Riverside, Delran, then Delanco for 18 years. He was named NJ Postmaster of the Year in 1981. Harvey was recruited by the Postmaster General to come to Washington DC and serve in the national headquarters, a position he held for a year. He was elected Vice President of the National League of Postmasters. Harvey was a man of great faith, a member of Dobbins Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee and administrative board and was a member of the Methodist Men. He also was a former member of the Riverside, Delran and Delanco Lions Club and the United Way. Harvey was a former Coach of the Delanco Spartans Football Club. He was elected Delanco Twp. Committeeman. Harvey was a Semi-Pro Wrestler along with his late father-in-law, George Eberly. He built an outdoor ring on his property on Second Street at Orchard Avenue. William E. "Bill" Morris, Jr. | William E. "Bill" Morris, Jr. was born June 19, 1945. He joined the US Navy and served in the United States Navy from 1964 and served until 1974 in Vietnam. He served as a Radioman First Class aboard the Richard L. Page (DGE-5), a Guided Missile Destroyer Escort from 1972 to1974. Bill attained the rank of TEC 5. After the service, Bill married Robin Rivers in 1973 and Robin joined him in his home port of Athens Greece. Returning to Delanco, the family was active at 1st Presbyterian Church in Delanco where Bill served as an elder. Bill served on the school board for twelve years and the planning board for six years. He served as Purchasing Agent of the Stepan Co. of Fieldsboro, NJ and worked there for about fifteen years until his retirement. The family lives on Perkins Lane. James X. "Jimbo" Morrissey | James X. Morrissey was born in January, 1941 and raised in Burlington, where he earned his lifelong nickname "Jimbo". He attended St. Paul Elementary School and Burlington City High School. He served for six years in the US Army National Guard Reserve. He was a longtime member and Past Exalted Ruler (1970 - 1971) of the Elks 996 in Burlington City. He married Susan in 1972; Three children. Jim worked for PSE&G Electrical Distribution Department in Moorestown.for 41 years. They attended Sacred Heart Church in Riverton. They lived on Shipps Way in Delanco later in life. Madeline Nixon Moyer | Madeline C. Nixon "Honey" Moyer was born in Riverside in 1945. She lived on Mulberry Street in Delanco until 1971. She attended Delanco schools and graduated from Riverside High School in 1964 She served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era from 1965 to 1969, assigned to the 494th and 22nd Bomb Wing, SU8 Reconn Tech Squadron in the Pacific Defense Analysis Facility. She was stationed in Texas, California and Hawaii. She earned the rank of Sergeant E-4 and a Good Conduct Medal. After the service, she worked for the US Postal Service, then served as Transportation Coordinator for Burlington Township Board of Education. She currently lives in Beverly, where she is active with the W.A. Richard M. “Dick” Mueller | Richard Millard "Dick" Mueller was born February 6, 1937. He joined the US Navy October 25, 1954 right after the Korean Conflict and served eight years until October 24, 1962. He served actively aboard the USS McCaffrey (DD-860), a Gearing-class destroyer. traveling to Europe, Asia, South America and the Caribbean. In January of 1958 he transferred to the US Naval Reserve assigned to the US Naval Station in Newport Rhode Island. He attained the rank of Quartermaster 3rd grade. He married Cathy and raised his family on Edwards Avenue in Delanco. After his discharge, Dick went to work for Sunoco, where he worked until he retired. Dick and Cathy were very active in Delanco. Dick was elected to the Township Committee and served as Mayor. Cathy served on the Board of Elections. Dick was responsible for founding the Delanco Cultural Athletic Club, Delanco Youth Sports Association. He created Delanco’s tradition of celebrating Babe Ruth Day in the 1970s. He ended his long career of public service in 1997 and the Muellers retired to Florida. Cathy died in 2014. Dick was guest of honor when the Mueller Pavilion at Delanco's Field of Dreams was dedicated in 2015. Walter R. Munyan | Walter R. Munyan was born January 30, 1873 in New Jersey. He joined the US Army for the Spanish American War. He was assigned to Co. H, 4th New Jersey Infantry. He earned the NJ Volunteer Medal. He married Lilliam M. Wright Rodman, her 2nd marriage and helped raise two stepchildren. He was living on Heulings Ave in Riverside in 1930, but soon moved to 736 Chestnut Street in Delanco, where he lived for the remainder of his life, Walter was a carpenter/contractor by trade. He was active with the Daniel M. Perkins Camp No. 50 of the Spanish American Veterans of Beverly, serving for a time as Commander. Walter died May 6, 1946 at his home in Delanco at age 73. He is buried in Beverly National Cemetery. Lillian died November 17, 1947 in Philadelphia at age 71. Charles R. Murray, Sr. | Charles R. "Chick" Murray, Sr. was born October 27, 1943 in Philadelphia to Charles I. and Thelma Murray. He joined the USAF and served during the Vietnam War as an aircraft mechanic, specializing in airframe repair. After the service, he apprenticed with Local 13 Boilermakers Union in Philadelphia, following the brotherhood with his father, brother Roy, and son Charlie, Jr. He worked in the field as a foreman, a business agent and ultimately became a superintendant. He married Judith Sabatino in 1970. They lived on Colgate Avenue in Delanco for 34 years. Chick took an early retirement, and they moved to paradise, first to Marco Island, and recently to Naples, Florida, At various times he went by the nicknames Skipper, Murray, Chick and Bugs. Chick and Judy enjoyed traveling before and during retirement. Judy died. Harry L. Myers, Jr. | Harry L. Myers, Jr. was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on July 5, 1925. The family moved to Princeton, NJ and Harry graduated valedictorian from Princeton High School. He then graduated from New Castle Business College. He served in the 9th Infantry of the US Army in Europe during WWII, attaining the rank of TEC 3. Harry was awarded many medals. He married Dorothy Strohecker in 1951 and the couple moved to Delanco, where Harry worked at Associated Box Company. They raised two sons. Harry later became President and CEO of Delanco Federal Savings Bank, and was Chairman of the board until he died March 11, 2004 at age 78. Richard S. Naylor | Richard Naylor was born in 1950 and lived in Delanco from 1957 to 1982. The family lived at 215 Buttonwood Street in Delanco. He enlisted in the US Navy December 1, 1985 and served aboard the USS Concord (AFS-5), a Mars-class combat stores ship, and the sub tender USS Simon Lake (AS-33), the lead ship of her class of submarine tenders based out of Charleston, South Carolina and Norfolk, Virginia. He Received a Unit Commendation and Battle E. and was discharged November 30, 1988 with the rank of SKSN. Francis L. Newman | Francis L. "Frank" Newman was born in 1923 to Albert H. and Marie Alberta Mercur Haley Newman and was raised in West Chester Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the US Army in WWII and served as a Tech Sgt. in Europe and Asia, notably in Salerno Italy, Normandy France, and Okinawa, Japan. As a frogman on the Underwater Demolition Team, he helped clear the beaches in advance of the Normandy invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was awarded three Bronze Stars. After the war, he became a dedicated educator in local school districts for 39 years. He served as an adjunct professor at Trenton State College and Rutgers University and was named Princeton University Teacher of the Year. He was elected President of the NJ Science Teacher Association. He lived on West Avenue in Delanco and was active in Corpus Christi Parish in Willingboro. Frank J. Nikolet | Frank J. "Hick" Nikolet was born December 25, 1938 in Bridgeboro, New Jersey. He joined the US Air Force in 1956 and served actively until 1960 between the Korean and Vietnam eras, the Cold War era. He served as an jet aircraft mechanic for the 68th OMS Bombardment Wing of the Strategic Air Command in Louisiana, working on B-47 aircraft. He attained the rank of Airman 2nd Class E-3 and remained on reserve until 1962. He moved to Delanco in 1961 and went to work for Millside Farms in Delran, working as a dairy machine operator, later working for Abbots and Fort Washington. He married Mary Karmade of Delanco and Frank and Mary both became very active with Washington Fire Co No 1 and Ladies Auxiliary in Delanco. Mary was also active with the New Jersey String Band and helped create their uniforms. Mary played and coached softball.
