| Elizabeth "Betty" Sutton Robbins | Elizabeth "Betty" Sutton was born in 1919 on her family's dairy farm in Columbus, New Jersey. Betty earned degrees in Home Economics from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina, and a master's degree from Drexel University. Her jobs took her to far flung corners of the country; running the nursery of a women's correctional institution; dietician for the Devereux Camp in Anson, Maine; dietician and home economics teacher at the Radford School for Girls in El Paso; and nurse's aide in wartime Texas. In WWII she served as a nurse’s aide and a dietician at the Devereaux Camp in Aniston Maine. After the war she met and married Dr. Morris A. Robbins and assisted him in establishing and operating his medical practice in Columbus. The couple had two children. In 1956 they moved to 1410 Second Street in Delanco where they lived for more than 50 years. Betty continued her career teaching in Wrightstown and Roebling, and working in her husband's medical office. She was a tireless volunteer with the Burlington County Medical Society Auxiliary and the Zurbrugg Hospital Auxiliary and an active and committed member of her church. In later years, following Morris' death in 2004, Betty 'retired' to Riverview Estates in Riverton, where she lived for many years. | Roy E. “Deets” Robertson | Roy E. Deets" Robertson was born in Burlington County May 17, 1920. He enlisted and served in the US Army during WWII. After his discharge, he married Carolyn V. Graham. They lived on Burlington Avenue in Delanco. Roy died in Burlington County in September of 1980 and is buried in Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson at age 60. | Edmund E. Robins, Sr. | Edmund E. Robins, Sr. was a former merchant seaman who started a small marine construction business. He purchased Rancocas Construction C. in Delanco to expand his business and renamed it Robins Shipbuilding & Welding. During WWII, the yard built steel-hulled ships for the US government. The yard sold in 1943. Robins later became an inspector for the US Army. Later still he became a civilian contractor for at McGuire AFB and constructed four of the Nike missile installations in the State of New Jersey. | Harold R. Rodman | Harold Ralph Rodman was listed on the original Delanco WW II Honor Roll. He was born in Riverside in 1924. They moved to Delanco between 1930 – 1935. Harold graduated from Palmyra High School in 1940. He joined First Presbyterian Church in 1941. He joined the US Naval Reserves in WWII and attained the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class serving as Yeoman 1st Class. He died in action on April 23, 1945 when his vessel, USS Eagle 56, a patrol boat towing targets for navy dive bombers, was torpedoed by a German U Boat off Cape Elizabeth Maine. Harold was initially listed as missing in action. The event was initially classified as a boiler explosion but was later reclassified as a combat loss due to enemy action. The crew were awarded Purple Hearts. | Nelson F. Rossi | Nelson Francis Rossi was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. and Mary Antonetta Moncini Rossi of 47 Hancock Street, Riverside. He married Dorothy Marie Graham and settled in Delanco. Nelson joined the US Army and served in the South Pacxific in WWII. He held the rank of Private 1/C. He was seriously wounded in New Guinea. | George W.C. Rust | George William Charles Rust was born in Camden in 1918. He enlisted in the Merchant Marine in 1934 at age 16, having lied about his age to go to sea. He served aboard the Point Breeze, E.R. Cox, and R.H. Colley. He lived in Moorestown for a short time before moving to Burlington. In 1940 he went to work for PSE&G Power Generating Station in Burlington and—enlisted in the US Naval Reserve. He was called to active duty in 1942.—He served aboard the—USCG Lightship Barnegat (LV-79) off Cape May, NJ, then served—as a Machinist Mate aboard the USS Menelaus (ARL-13, "The Lucky 13"), a new Achelous class repair ship in 1945, probably in the Mediterranean. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Machinist Mate 1st Class, receiving Good Conduct and Victory Medals. He resumed work for PSE&G, eventually working for them for almost 40 years until his retirement. He married Jean P. Altofer and they raised five sons: Bill, Tom Gary, David and Eddie. The family moved to Delanco in 1954 where he lived the rest of his life. George joined Delanco's Emergency Services and served as Captain of the Squad in the late 1950s. | Alan M. Schaeffer, MD | Alan M. Schaeffer was born in 1914 in Atlantic Highlands, NJ to Rev. and Mrs. Joseph Schaeffer and grew up in Barrington, NJ. He prepped at William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia, graduated from Princeton University in 1936 and Jefferson Medical School in 1940. In 1942 he joined the Navy Medical Corps and was assigned as a medical officer to the 50th Construction Battalion at Pearl Harbor and Midway Island. He retired as a Lt Commander in 1946. That same year, Dr. Schaeffer married Vera "Nancy" Cox and opened his private practice in Delanco on the first floor of their house at 229 Willow St. where they also raised two children, Susan and Stephen. Dr. Schaeffer was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Delanco and also served as Chief of Obstetrics at Zurbrugg Hospital in Riverside. He and Nancy moved to 801 Second St. in 1977. He retired from practice in 1981 having delivered over 5,000 babies. In the 1990’s he and Nancy moved to Cadbury in Cherry Hill. | Katherine E. Deacon Schaum | Katherine E. "Kitty" Deacon was born October 24, 1925 and was raised in Trenton NJ. She began her working career at age 13 during the Great Depression. Right out of high school, Kitty served as a nurse for the US Army Medical Corps at Ft. Dix during WWII. In 1945, she married (1st) Knole Shepherd "Bud" Deacon, Jr. and had four children. They lived in Delanco from 1945 until 1953, then moved to Prescott, Arizona where she and Bud operated a truck stop in Chino Valley. She also sold real estate and modeled at Goldwaters Department Store, where she became friendly with Barry Goldwater. She subsequently worked for Barry Goldwater's Senatorial campaign. In April 1965 she married (2nd) William Thorpe "Bill" Schuam. They moved to El Sobranye, California and had one additional child. They moved to Cool, California and built a home in in Auburn Lake Trails where Kitty sold real estate. | Kathrine E. "Kitty" Deacon Schaum | The future Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth "Kitty" Deacon Schaum was born in Trenton on October 24, 1925. She grew up in Trenton, beginning her working career at the age of 13 during the Great Depression. Out of high school she worked as a nurse for the U.S. Army, Fort Dix, during World War II. In 1945 she married Knole Shepherd "Bud" Deacon, Jr. See also and had three children. During this marriage, she resided in New Jersey and eventually moved to Prescott, Arizona. During her time in Prescott she and Bud owned a truck stop in Chino Valley. She also sold real estate and was, for a time, a model at Goldwater's Department Store, where she became friends with Barry Goldwater and eventually assisted with his campaign to become a U.S. Senator. In April, 1965, she married William Thorpe "Bill" Schaum and, with her three youngest children, moved to California, first living in El Sobrante and eventually, in 1973, moving to Cool, California, where she and Bill built a home in Auburn Lake Trails. For many years she sold real estate in the Cool/Georgetown Divide area. Kitty died April 9, 2012 at age 86 at her home, in Placer County, California. | Warren T. Schneider | Warren T. Schneider was born September 25, 1922, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schneider of 504 New Jersey Avenue in Riverside. He married Geraldine "Gerrie" Herbst and lived with the Herbst family on Holly Street in Delanco. He joined the US Army and went off to serve in the infantry in WWII and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was killed in action on November 18, 1944 at the battle for Belfort Gap in France at age 22, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Warren is buried in Beverly National Cemetery. | Frederick A. Schoenhofer | Frederick A. Schoenhofer was born in Philadelphia in 1925. Fred served in the US Navy from 1942 – 1945 aboard the Independence Class aircraft carrier USS Langley (CV-1), The USS Langley was the United States Navy's first aircraft carrier, converted in 1920 from the collier USS Jupiter, and also the US Navy's first turbo-electric-powered ship. which had a long and distinguished service record in the South Pacific during WWII. Fred married Elinore J. Field in 1946. They lived in Delanco from 1953 to 1967 and again from 1982 to 2011 at 2011 Burlington Avenue in Delanco for 35 years. They were active members of St Joseph’s Parish in Beverly. Fred was a carpenter for Cherry Hill Hyatt until he retired. He was an active member of Samuel T. Lambert VFW Post 3020 in Riverside. | George C. Scott | George C. Scott was born in Philadelphia in 1926 to N. Budd and Ida Steinmann Scott. One brother Howard B. Scott. The family was living at 320 Vine Street in 1940. George enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Anacostia (AO-94), an Escambia-class replenishment oiler in the Western Pacific in WWII. His name was found in a crew autograph book dated 1945. Nickname "Sparky". Probably an electrician. George married Marie L. Scott, nee Grab, of Delanco in 1952. They were married for 47 years. They appear to have lived in Cinnaminson, then at 201 Delview Lane in Delanco. George served as Master PGC of Riverside Masonic Lodge #187 in 1964. George died February 11 1999 at age 73 yrs. Marie died in 2009 at age 83. Both are buried in Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson. George C.
