Howard J. Nixon Howard J. Nixon was listed on the original Delanco WW II Honor Roll. He was born in 1918. He married Arlo Nixon. He joined the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He died in 1996 at age 77 and is buried in Beverly National Cemetery. USMC, GY Sgt ? WWII 1918 – 1966

Howard A. Norcross, Jr. Howard Adams Norcross, Jr. was listed on the original Delanco WW II Honor Roll. He was born January 31, 1925, son of Howard A. Norcross, Sr. of Delanco. Brother of William E, Fenimore, Mark Fenimore and Patricia Caputo. Howard served as a coxswain of a landing craft and participated in the D-Day landing in Normandy in WWII. A photo of Howard and his crew are in the Delanco archive. Howard continued to serve in the US Naval Reserve. He married Laura Hazel Robinson in 1946. He died December 1, 1965. Laura died in 2015. Warren T. Oldroyd Warren T. Oldroyd was born October 21, 1930 and raised on Fern Street in the Olney section of Philadelphia. His family moved to Center Street in Delanco in 1948 and Warren graduated from Burlington City High School in 1949. He worked at the custard stand at Olympia Lakes. He appears to have enrolled in Trenton State Teachers College in 1949. He joined the US Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam War. He married Patricia. They later moved to Maitland, Florida. Warren died May 6, 2013 at age 82. He is buried in Woodland Memorial Park in Gotha, Orange Co, Florida. USAF Res ? Vietnam 1930 - 2013
Michael A. Onori, Jr. Michael A. Onori, Jr. was born in Riverside on December 23, 1952. He married Dorothy of Burlington Township. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of PFC. He was a painter during his lifetime and worked at various locations. He was a member of the Burlington City Exempt Firemen's Assoc. and of the Young America Ladder #3 of Burlington. Michael died May 24, 2008 at age 55 and is buried in Brig Gen Wm C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. US Army, PFC Unit? Korea 1952 – 2008
David K. Osmond, Sr. David K. Osmond, Sr. was born in Riverside on October 12, 1919 to Lewis and Lillian Osmond of Delanco. He attended local Delanco schools and graduated Burlington City High School about 1936. He married Grace Herbst of Delanco in First Presbyterian Church, April 19, 1942; Children: David and Dean. The family lived in several homes in Delanco over the years. David’s family reports that he was probably the first of Delanco’s sons to be drafted into WWII, entering in April of 1943. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps for three years as an Army Aviator for the 668 Artillery Battalion. He earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant by the time of his discharge in February 1946. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater and American Theater Campaign Ribbons, WWII Victory Medal and American Defense Medal. David worked in the family printing business for a while, then went to work for the US Post Office, eventually serving as Postmaster in Delanco and Riverside. David was called back to serve in the US Army in January 1951 for the Korean Conflict and served as a liaison pilot with the 555th Field Artillery Battalion as a forward spotter. His plane went down in Korea, though he survived. Dave served until April 1953 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He earned an Air Medal, Korean Service Medal, 1st UN Counter-Offensive Ribbon, and CCF Spring Offensive Ribbon. Dave's family lived in several locations in Delanco: 700 Chestnut Street, 101 Willow Street, and finally Maple Street. When David returned from Korea, he returned to work for the US Post Office, eventually serving as Postmaster in Riverside.David and Grace retired to Venice, Florida. David died Oct. 10, 2010 in Venice at age 90. Interment was at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida. Thomas G. Page Thomas Gottlieb Page was listed on the original Delanco WW II Honor Roll. He was born July 30, 1915. He served in WWII and was listed on the WWII Memorial. He died July 29, 1998 at age 82 and was buried in Monument Cemetery in Beverly. ? ? WWII 1915 – 1998
Samuel J. Painter Samuel Joyce Painter was born in 1844 and became a ward of the Taylor family. At age 16, Sam lied about his age in order to enlist in the US Army to fight in the Civil War. He became a member of G Company of the 23rd Regiment, New Jersey Volunteer Infantry – the Jersey Yahoos, which mustered at Camp Cadwalader in Beverly. He fought in the Battle of Salem Church, Virginia where he was severely wounded on May 3, 1863 and lost his right arm. He mustered out at Camp Cadwalader in Beverly as a private. After the war, he returned to Delanco and was employed as a bridgetender. Sam married Margaret Wells Bishop and had six children. The family lived at 400 Burlington Avenue about 1911. Sam reportedly fell in the Rancocas Creek in Delanco and drowned on October 20, 1917. Mary died in 1928, Both are buried in Asbury Cemetery in Cinnaminson NJ. Leon G. Pancoast Leon G. Pancoast served in the US Army during WWI and was listed on Delanco's original WWI Honor Roll. He was honored for his service during WWI on Memorial Day in 1928. US Army ? WWI ?
Richard Parry Richard "Dick" Parry was born in Philadelphia on September 20, 1935 to William and Dorothy Loring Parry. The family lived in Delanco until Dick was 13, when the family moved to Windham, Maine in 1948. Dick graduated from Windham High School in 1953. He was drafted into the US Army and served two tours before transitioning to the US Army Reserves, where he served until 1964. He married Janice Pray Parry in 1979. They had two children. After the service, Dick worked in the service departments of both Pepsi Cola and Coca Cola. The family enjoyed camping, cruising and boating on beautiful Sebago Lake in southwestern Maine. Late in life, Dick moved to Maine's Veteran Home in Scarborough, Maine. He died on March 28, 2022 at age 86 after a long bought with dementia. US Army US Army Res ? ? ? ? 1935 - 2022
Edmund T. “Ed” Parsons Edmund T. “Ed” Parsons was born July 31, 1949. He lived in Maple Shade before moving to Delanco. Ed served in the US Army during the Vietnam conflict. After the service, Ed joined Delanco police force in 1974. He rose through every rank and file in the police department and served as Chief of Police in Delanco beginning in 1989. Ed retired in July 2009 after 35 years of service on the force and 20 as Chief. After retiring, Ed moved to Marlton. He was a member of the Nam Knights Motorcycle Club. Biagio L. Passione Biagio "Ben" Louis Passione was born in Brooklyn, NY to Ciro and Catherina Passione on January 16, 1932. He loved sports as a boy, especially baseball. Ben joined the US Army in 1953 and served honorably as a radioman during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of Corporal prior to his discharge in 1955. After the service, Ben worked as a technical writer for RCA at their Cherry Hill and Camden locations. During his career, he enjoyed traveling the world to facilities in places such as Greenland, Morocco and Germany. He married Dorothy Jeanne Nicholas on July 28, 1962 and they raised their children and step-children on Burlington Avenue in Delanco. Ben was very active in Delanco as a baseball and basketball coach. He became loyal fan to the Mets NY Mets fan after their origination in 1962. He was also deeply involved in St. Joseph's Church in Beverly and loved coaching CYO Basketball. He played golf and bowled with his RCA coworkers.until he retired from RCA after 32 years..He also enjoyed doing word puzzles and Sudoku at home. Ben passed away at the Samaritan Center in Voorhees on Sunday, January 1, 2023 at age 91 and was buried in Odd Fellows Cemetary in Burlington. US Army Cpl Radioman Korea 1932 - 2023
William "Bill" Pence, Sr. James William “Bill” Pence, Sr. was born September 28, 1915 in Rockingham County, Virginia to John William Ernest Pence. He served in the US Army during WWII. When he returned from the service, he married Anna Horton on November 8, 1943 in Wilmington, Delaware and settled in Delanco. Children: James William Pence, Jr. and Judith Ann Pence Warden. Bill was very active in Delanco and served on Township Committee and as Mayor of Delanco. He was responsible for placing the Babe Ruth Day plaque on Babe Ruth field in Delanco. Bill died April 8, 1992 in Delanco. and is buried in Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson. US Army, ? ? WWII ?
James O. "Oscar" Pennington James Osgood "Oscar" Pennington was born November 2, 1839 in Milledgeville, Georgia, the son of Reverend Ephraim Pennington in Rowen County, North Carolina and Lucy Brown of Texas; Great grandson of Rev. Ephraim Chester Pennington. James enlisted with the Confederate Army on September 17, 1861, and served in C Co, 35th Georgian Infantry. He was tasked as a mail carrier and appointed Sergeant on August 24, 1862. On assignment carrying mail from Atlanta, he went north and ended up at Gettysburg. He engaged in the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1 – 3, 1863. He deserted in 1864. One story reports he was received at Fortress Monroe Virginia on July 19, 1864. He took the Oath of Allegiance to the US and was sent to Philadelphia PA. Another account says he walked 155 miles to Bristol, Pennsylvania and found a Bristolian who rowed him across the Delaware River. James settled in Delanco, Burlington County. Ho married (1st) Josephine and (2nd) Anne Corr (Core) Johnsen who was born about 1839 in Vincentown, New Jersey. James and Ann raised 14 children. It is noted that many of their offspring became farmers in Delanco in the late 1800s. James died in 1911 in Rahway, New Jersey. CSA Army, Sgt C Co 35th GA Inf, Mail Carrier Civil War 1839 – 1911
Chester A. Pennington Chester Arthur Pennington was born in Delanco on September 16, 1916 to Chester A. and Emily Lush Pennington of Delanco. He graduated from Wilbur Watts High School, Burlington in 1937 and was ordained an Elder in the New Jersey Annual Conference in 1938. He received his undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1940 and his BD and PhD from Drew Seminary & University. Rev. Pennington married (1st) Marjorie Bruschweiler in 1941; Two children. During WWII, 1943-46 he served as a Chaplain in the United States Navy. Four years later Dr. Pennington acquired his honorary degrees of LHD & DD in 1949 from Oxford University in England. Also during that time (1943-51) he served at Hackettstown in the Northern New Jersey conference and was a professor at Centenary College. Other appointments included St. Paul & St. Andrew in New York City from 1951-55, Hennepin Avenue United Methodist in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 1955-1972. He retired in 1980 having served as Professor of Preaching and Worship at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado (1972-80). Marjorie died in 1995 and Chester married (2nd) Ardelle Schneider in 1996. They retired to Greenville, South Carolina. Rev. Dr. Pennington died September 9, 2005. US Navy Chaplain WWII 1913 - ?
Benjamin F. Perkins Benjamin Franklin Perkins was born on September 13, 1843, Son of Richard VS Perkins and his wife Anna Elizabeth; one of three siblings. He was a resident of Beverly, however there was no mention of him in Delanco village in the 1860 Census. Ben served as a Private in the Civil War. He married Kate Andrews of Tuckerton in 1866. He was living on Van Rossum Avenue in Beverly in 1911. He died on October 20, 1915 at age 73 and is buried in Monument Cemetery. Union Army, Pvt ? Civil War 1843 – 1915
Jacob Perkins Jacob Perkins was born on September 10, 1731, the son of Benjamin Perkins and Elinor Cox, and the grandson of Jacob Perkins, Jr. He married Elizabeth Hewlings (or Heulings) in Swedes Church on March 7, 1756. They had ten children. Jacob was commissioned as a Major in the NJ Militia in the American Revolution in 1775 or 1776. After the war, he built a brick farmhouse on the Delaware riverfront in what is now Delanco. Their initials and "1789" are worked into the bricks on the gable end. Jacob died in 1792 and was buried in St Mary’s Churchyard in Burlington City. NJ Militia, Maj ? Rev War 1731 – 1792
George J. Pestridge, Jr. This George J. Pestridge was the nephew of George J. Pestridge. He never married. He served in the US Army during WWI and was listed on Delanco's original WWI Honor Roll. He was honored for his service during WWI on Memorial Day in 1928. He lived on Walnut Street in one of the units created out of the bowling alley. US Army, Rank ? WWI ?
