| Emil E. Tuch | Emil E. Tuch was born April,6, 1911, the son of Joseph and Ida Tuch of Delanco. He married Evelyn Joan and was living in Delanco in 1940. He enlisted in the US Army in WWII in Camden on November 9, 1942. His skills were listed as manufacturing of clocks, watches, jhewelry and working in precious metals. Emil and his wife operated the food market at 309 Burlington Avenue at Franklin Street. Emil's son provided us with details of their years operating the store. | Raymond T. “Pop” Vanaman | Raymond T. “Pop” Vanaman was born in Cape May New Jersey in 1922. He served in the US Navy in WWII. After discharge he moved to Walter Ave in Delanco. Ray taught industrial arts and coached in Delanco Schools from 1950 to 1990 and was affectionally known as "Pop". It was at Walnut Street School that he met Joy Lippincott, who he married in 1951. They were active in Dobbins Memorial Church and their community, including Delanco Senior Citizens. Ray was active with Boy Scout Troop 19 programs in Delanco and established Sea Explorer Ship 19 here. Pop used his navy connections to procure equipment and uniforms for the program. Pop was honored by Delanco HPAB and the "boys" from his many scout programs on December 11, 2011. | Joseph L. Vigilante | Joseph L. Vigilante was born in Philadelphia in 1925. He joined the Army Air Corps and served from 1943 to 1945. He served as an OSS radio operator in Japanese occupied China earning him Bronze Star. After the war, Joe married Florence in 1952. He trained as a social worker, receiving degrees from Temple and Columbia including a Doctorate. He taught and became Dean of Social Work at Adelphi from 1962 – 1987. When he retired he was appointed University Professor of Social Policy. He received citations from the governors of New York and Vermont. He remained an active member of the OSS Society. | Paul P. Vollmar | Paul Phillip Vollmar was born about 1923 to Charles E. and Verna Spanninger Vollmar of Philadelphia. Paul entered the US Navy for WWII, serving as a Corsair pilot in the Pacific. Air Group 2 of the Essex Class USS Shangri La (CV-38) nicknamed the "Tokyo Express". He married Doris Mary Moloney in 1946. They appear to have settled at 409 Burlington Avenue in Delanco where they lived for 30 years. Paul was a mechanic by trade and after the war was a partner in the firm of VAMCO with brothers-in-law Frank Applegate and Richard Moloney. They operated out of the machine shop on the alley behind the Moloney house. He later worked for Silex and Woodstream. Paul was a member of the Delanco Recreation Commission when it was founded in 1965. He served on Delanco Township Committee and served as Mayor of Delanco in 1969. Paul was a proud and active Rotarian and the family was active at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for many years. The family moved to Lititz in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. | Albert J. Volpe | Al Volpe (pronounced Volp) was born in 1914, son of John and Rose Volpe. He lived at 514 Magnolia Street in Beverly and was active in St. Stephens Church in Beverly. He attended "Mechanics School" in lieu of high school. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1930 at age 17. He joined the US Army in September of 1944 and served in Co K of the 114th Inf in WWII in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Germany, Australia, until October 1945. He earned the Bronze Star with 3 Oak Clusters at the Battle of the Bulge. He later served in Korea. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Army of Occupation Medal. When he returned to the US he served as Chief Warrant Officer at Fort Dix. He reported that he met Elvis Presley when he processed into the service. He retired in 1960 after a long career in the military. He met Dorothy Carr and married her in 1947. They bought a home on Peachtree Lane in Delanco. Al worked for the New Jersey Turnpike Commission. Al was a member of Beverly American Legion Post 115 for 59 years, and served as Commander. He organized the Avenue of Flags at Beverly National Cemetery, dedicated November 11, 1983. He served as Grand Marshall in the Beverly Memorial Day Parade in 2001. Bill was a graduate of Palmyra High School and was employed by Keystone Watch Case after graduation. He joined the service on September 20, 1944 for WWII and trained at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. He went overseas February 18, 1945 to fight in the 10th Armored Infantry Battalion of General George Patton's 3rd Army. Prior to his service, Frank worked for Hollingshead in Camden, New Jersey. Frank entered the armed forces on April 20, 1942 at age 21 and served in North Africa during WWII. | Edward Dennis Walsh | Edward Dennis Walsh was born in Newark New Jersey in 1922. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue in 1944. He joined the US Navy and served in the South Pacific in WWII. He married Margaret Spears in 1945. They moved to Delanco in 1956. His residence was 701 Delaware Avenue. Ed worked for City Service on Pettys Island. He later founded C-LEC, a plastics company in Philadelphia. Ed was known as a competitive sailor and earned several national titles in the Comet class. He was good friends with William Woods of Delanco who was also a competitive sailor. Ed also became a small plane aviator for his business. | Christopher D. Wareham | Christopher David Wareham was born in May of 1951. He served as a pilot in the military for 26 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He married Lori H Rossi and lived at 101 Maple Ave in Delanco. After retirement, Chris worked as a medivac helicopter in Texas for many years before retiring.
